Our New Site!

Welcome to our new website. It has been over a year in the making (though there were many rumblings in the years preceding), and now it is finally ready for its debut.

It is rumored that www.sup.org first went live at a time when the Mosaic browser was in use in the early nineties. The earliest screenshots we have are from 1998. Below is a screen shot from 2000:

As all websites do, it continued to evolve. Below is a screen shot from 2002:

And 2004:

Between 2000 and 2005 the average screen size on computers went from 800 x 600 pixels to 1024 x 768. The major web browser was Internet Explorer. Netscape Navigator was on the wane, and Mozilla Firefox was becoming a key player advancing adherence to web standards. Our first big overhaul began in 2004. Here is an early mockup, never before seen by the outside world, complete with those annoying drop-down menus that obscure the content:

Thankfully, we have an actual designer in house, so we eventually settled on a more subtle approach when we went live in 2005:

The 2005 site has been in use for nearly ten years. Although it has evolved somewhat, you can see that the look and feel remained to the very end:

We began imagining the current site in 2013. Below is an early design, complete with dark, brooding header:

With the current site, we've tried to adapt to the changing demands of the web, with better design for mobile and the wide range of screen sizes and browsers out there. Internet Explorer traffic is down to 10% on our site, and Chrome is 44%. Safari and Firefox have significant market share. Over 10% of our daily traffic is now from mobile devices (essentially phones), and 5% from tablets. We think it's a much better site all around, but there is always room for improvement, so please feel free to send us your comments. We appreciate feedback!
