Ebooks from Stanford University Press

Ebooks may be purchased in either PDF or EPUB formats.

PDF is a fixed-page layout that may be preferred for reading on a larger screen, for textbooks, or for books with extensive illustrations or equations. EPUB is a reflowable format and will adapt better to various screen sizes.

Either format that you purchase will be accessible to you in your personal library using the Academic Reader, a free app developed by Glassboxx, a leader in digital solutions for scholarly and academic publishers. In the app, you will see your purchased book(s) under “MY BOOKS”. PDFs can only be read through the app. EPUBs can be read through the app but also may be read in the browser.

Why should I buy ebooks directly from the publisher?

By buying directly from our site, you ensure that more revenue goes to support us and our authors. Read any ebooks you purchase from us on the Academic Reader app, available on supported versions of iOS and Android. Note that Windows and and Mac OS versions are coming soon.

How to access ebooks on the Academic Reader app.

1. After purchase, you should receive a confirmation email with links to download the app, which can be installed on your phone or tablet. You can also read directly in a browser.

2. Use the same email address in the app that you used for your purchase. After you enter your email address on the login screen, a verification code is sent to the email address you entered. The email will come from Glassboxx and has the subject “Your Glassboxx Verification Code.” You might need to check your spam folder to see the verification email.

3. When you log into the app, you will see your purchased book(s) under “MY BOOKS.”

Can I use a different app to read my ebook?

While our ebooks are available for purchase from other retailers, ebook purchases made on this website can only be enjoyed on the Academic Reader app, powered by Glassboxx.
